The Rose

The Rose is a pop/rock band from Seoul, Korea, where the four-piece group formed in 2017. Band members Dojoon, Jaehyeong, Hajoon, and Woosung first performed together as street buskers, then signed with J&Star Company in 2016. "Sorry," their debut single, was released the following year. Written by Hajoon, the song reached Number 14 on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart, a feat matched by the follow-up release "Baby" in 2018. "Baby" doubled as the lead single from Void, The Rose's debut EP, which was released in April 2018. A significant success, Void reached Number 25 on the GAON Album Chart in South Korea and Number 8 on the World Digital Songs chart. A companion EP, Dawn, was released in October 2018 and fared similarly well, cracking the Top 10 on both charts while earning another hit single with "She's in the Rain." Now an internationally-touring act, The Rose released "Red" in 2019, earning their first Top 10 hit along the way. The Covid 19 pandemic, mandatory military service, and a public spat with J&Star Company dogged the group through 2020 and 2021, but The Rose continued to release new music. "Beauty and the Beast," their fifth Top 20 hot on the World Digital Songs chart, reached Number 15 in 2021, marking the band's first successful single as an independent act. The group later signed with Transparent Arts, a label run by the hip-hop outfit Far East Movement, and released the album Dual in September 2023. Dual was more successful than the band's debut, reaching number 8 in South Korea while also reaching number 83 on the Billboard 200.
