Lunachicks is an American punk rock band from New York City, formed in 1987 by Theo Kogan, Gina Volpe, and Sydney "Squid" Silver. They wrote a first composition, "Theme Song", and played a debut show in 1988 with Mike on drums. Impressed by an early performance, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth sent a demo tape to Paul Smith, securing them a deal with Blast First. With drummer Becky Wreck, they released the Lunachicks EP (1989) and the debut album Babysitters on Acid (1990). They toured extensively and released several albums, including Binge & Purge (1992), Jerk of All Trades (1995), and Pretty Ugly (1997). They gained cult popularity when Becky Wreck appeared on Howard Stern's Lesbian Dating Game. They went on hiatus in 2001 but reunited for shows in 2002 and 2004, officially reuniting in 2019 and playing shows in 2021. Other releases include the album Luxury Problem (1999).
