Lit is an American rock band formed in Orange County, California by brothers A. Jay and Jeremy Popoff and bassist Kevin Baldes, who began playing together after Jeremy and Baldes met in 1986. In 1987 the band Strate Lace was formed which later evolved into Razzle and finally Lit. Lit released their debut album Tripping the Light Fantastic on April 1, 1997 through Malicious Vinyl. They signed with RCA Records in 1998 and released A Place in the Sun. This second album featured the hit single "My Own Worst Enemy", which topped the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart for eleven weeks and received a Billboard Music Award for the biggest modern rock song of 1999. The album was certified platinum in the US with other notable singles including "Zip-Lock" and "Miserable". Lit followed up with Atomic on February 20, 2001. On May 5, 2008 drummer Allen Shellenberger was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He passed away on August 13, 2009, after enduring treatments that were documented by ABC World News Tonight
