SR-71

SR‑71 was formed in 1998 in Baltimore, Maryland, by frontman Mitch Allan, who handled lead vocals and rhythm guitar. The band’s name referenced the SR‑71 Blackbird aircraft, reflecting the members’ Air Force family backgrounds. Their breakthrough came with the 2000 single "Right Now", which reached number  2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The success of the single propelled the debut album Now You See Inside (June  20,  2000), which entered the Billboard 200 at number  81 and topped the Heatseekers chart at number  2. In October  2002 the group released Tomorrow, produced by Neal Avron and Butch Walker; the title track "Tomorrow" peaked at number  18 on Modern Rock Tracks, though the album charted lower, at number  138 on the Billboard 200. After lineup changes-including the departure of drummer Dan Garvin and guitarist Mark Beauchemin-the band recorded Here We Go Again in 2003, released exclusively in Japan by Crown Japan on May  21,  2004; the album failed to chart. Subsequent touring and sporadic reunion shows followed, but the group entered an indefinite hiatus in 2007. Mitch Allan continued to write and produce for other artists, while the band’s catalog remains a snapshot of early‑2000s alternative rock.
