Government Issue is an American hardcore punk band from Washington, D.C.. The group originated as The Stab with lead singer John Stabb and drummer Marc Alberstadt. After lineup changes, including guitarist Brian Baker, they renamed themselves Government Issue. Their debut EP Legless Bull was released through Dischord Records in September 1981. Throughout their career, the band experienced numerous lineup shifts but maintained a consistent output of albums. Notable releases include Boycott Stabb, Joyride, and The Fun Just Never Ends. The band's stylistic diversity influenced later punk rock groups. Government Issue disbanded in 1989 due to creative differences, seeing Stabb continue with various projects until his death in 2016.
