Golden Smog

Golden Smog is an American alternative country-rock supergroup from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 1989, the group consists of a rotating lineup of musicians from bands including Soul Asylum, The Replacements, Wilco and The Jayhawks. Relative constant members who appear on all recordings include Kraig Johnson, Dan Murphy, Gary Louris and Marc Perlman. The group released the covers EP On Golden Smog in 1992. The ensemble's debut studio album, Down by the Old Mainstream, appeared in 1995 and featured Jeff Tweedy and Noah Levy. This was followed by the recording Weird Tales in 1998. The ensemble later released the albums Another Fine Day (2006) and Blood on the Slacks (2007). In 2019, the band reunited for a performance at Dan Murphy's birthday celebration. In 2025, the group embarked on a tour that included performances in Jersey City, New York City and Chicago.
