Whiskeytown was an American alternative country band formed in 1994 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Fronted by Ryan Adams, the group initially included Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandscher, Eric "Skillet" Gilmore, and Steve Grothmann. The band's debut album Faithless Street (released on Mood Food Records) established them as leaders in the genre and led to a major-label deal with Geffen Records' Outpost imprint. Their 1997 major-label debut, Strangers Almanac, featured notable tracks such as "16 Days" and "Yesterday's News", receiving critical acclaim from publications like Rolling Stone. The band underwent significant lineup changes during this period, with Adams and Cary remaining the constants. In 2001, their final album Pneumonia was released by Lost Highway Records after Outpost Records closed. Despite disbanding in 2000, Whiskeytown's influence persisted through Ryan Adams' solo career and other members' musical endeavors.
