Futenzoku is a Japanese five-member rock band formed in 2021 in Tokyo. Known for their raw, theatrical style, they blend elements of rock, blues, folk, and progressive music. The group consists of Daiki Yamashita (vocals), Sotaro Kosugi (guitar), Kankichi Takada (guitar), Shinnosuke Fujino (drums), and Daiki Onodera (bass). With Yamashita’s striking white-painted stage persona and cryptic lyrics, paired with twin lead guitars and a rhythm section deeply rooted in black music traditions, Futenzoku creates an atmospheric sound often compared to pioneering Japanese rock acts of the late '60s and early '70s, such as Murahachibu and Jacks. Rejecting modern promotional trends like social media, Futenzoku has steadily cultivated a devoted following through word-of-mouth and sold-out live performances, bringing a unique retro yet timeless aesthetic to Japan’s rock scene. Their music evokes the gritty feel of back alleys and underground culture, wrapped in a dense, expressive sonic palette. In 2025, they released the single ”Harrison Dan/Bo!", a track that exemplifies their blend of raw rock energy and poetic lyricism, further solidifying their reputation as one of Japan’s most distinctive contemporary rock bands.
