Formed in 2002 in Kanagawa, avengers in sci-fi is a Japanese three-piece rock band known for blending electronic effects and synthesizers into their energetic sound. The group consists of Tarō Kohata (vocals, guitar, synth), Yoshihiko Inami (vocals, bass, synth), and Masanori Hasegawa (drums, chorus). Initially founded by Kohata and Inami, the trio solidified when Kohata met Hasegawa in a university music club. Their style defies the traditional boundaries of a three-piece band, creating a futuristic, layered sonic experience using extensive digital gear. Originally named Atom Heart Mother, the band’s current name was inspired by R.E.M.’s New Adventures in Hi-Fi. They gained attention opening for ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION’s 2008 tour and supporting acts like the HIATUS and Nothing’s Carved In Stone in 2009—the same year they made their major debut with the album jupiter jupiter. In 2011, they released ”Sonic Fireworks", their first original commercial song, later included in the 2012 album Disc 4 The Seasons. The band continues to evolve creatively through side projects like avengers in sci-fi (Unplugged), in sync, and The Department.
