Amorphis is a happy melodic death metal band. Formed in 1990, the Finnish band released their debut album The Karelian Isthmus in 1992. Two years later, Tales from the Thousand Lakes reveals the ambition of a band whose palette ranges from folk metal to death metal, with many constructions leaning towards progressive metal. Subsequent releases, Elegy (1996) and Tuonela (1999), reinforce these initial good impressions, while Am Universum (2001) ventures into psychedelic territory. The arrival of singer Tomi Joutsen in 2005 did nothing to change the situation for a band still rich in inspiration. In 2007, Silent Waters adds a welcome commercial success to the fervor of the faithful. The Amorphis saga continues with the lyrically dynamic albums Skyforger (2009) and The Beginning of Times (2011). In 2013, Amorphis moves away from the legends of the Kalevala to tell the original story of Circle. After a twentieth anniversary fittingly celebrated on stage, 2015 sees the release of the twelfth studio opus Under the Red Cloud, with contributions from Christian Chrigel Glanzmann, Martin Lopez and Aleah Stanbridge. In 2018, singer Anneke van Giersbergen is invited by the sextet on the album Queen of Time. Amorphis continues into the 2020s with Halo (2022) and Borderland (2025).
