Yu Takahashi

Yu Takahashi (born on December 26, 1983 in Akita, Japan) is a Japanese singer and songwriter. Learning the electric guitar during middle school and later performing as a singer in a hardcore punk cover band, Takahashi moved to Sapporo to focus on his solo career, self-releasing debut album Sepia in February 2002. For the next five years, he focused on performing locally, releasing his second album Mugon no Bōryoku in 2007, which debuted at number 1 on the independent releases chart. Moving to Toyko in 2008, Takahashi released his third album Agura before he was scouted by a prominent talent agency, subsequently signing with Warner Music. His debut studio single “Subarashiki Nichijō” (2011) received considerable airplay, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, followed by hit single, “Honto no Kimochi” (2011) which was certified gold and featured as the theme song for the Japanese drama Q10 (television series). Takahashi’s success continued with four consecutive top 10 studio albums: Real Time Singer Songwriter (2011), Kono Koe (2012), Break My Silence (2013) and Ima, Soko ni Aru Meimetsu to Gunjō (2014) and in 2015, he released his most successful commercial album to date: Yu Takahashi Best 2009-2015: Warau Yakusoku, which charted at number 3. Appointed music ambassador in his home prefecture in Akita in 2016, Takahashi took a brief hiatus to focus on hometown music festival Akita CARAVAN MUSIC FES before returning with Starting Over (2018), Personality (2020) and ReLove & RePeace, released in October 2022.
