Wibal & Alex

Wibal & Alex are a Puerto Rican reggaeton duo formed in 2002 in Comerío—vocalists José Rivera (Wibal) and José Díaz (Alex)—who came up in the island’s mixtape era before breaking onto major compilations in the mid-2000s. Early visibility arrived with “Fantasía” on Luny Tunes’ Mas Flow, Vol. 2 (2005), aligning the pair with the scene’s top producers and paving the way for their debut album El Repertorio (2007, Universal/Montano), a set that blended perreo with R&B and merengue touches and spun off fan staples like “Gata Psycho,” “Presión,” and “La Baya.” They followed with Los Bionikos—also billed as Los Dueños del Planeta: Los Bionikos—in 2009, consolidating their “Los Dueños del Bandidaje” tag while the single “La Nena del Caserío” became their signature club hit. A third full-length, World Edition (2012, Fresh Productions), extended their run with 21 tracks and kept the duo active on Latin urban radio and tours. After a quieter stretch, Wibal & Alex resurfaced in the streaming era with singles such as “A Ciegas” (feat. Divino), “Infrahumana” (feat. Eybiem), and “Nunca te vayas” (2017–2018), then issued the retrospective-minded album The Last Sound in 2020, bringing catalog pillars like “La Nena del Caserío,” “Si Supieras,” and “Sin Miedo a Morir” to new audiences.
