Vanishing Twin are a London-based experimental psych-pop collective known for their genre-defying sound and rich, otherworldly aesthetic. Formed in 2015 by singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas (also of Fanfarlo), the band takes its name from her personal story of having had a vanishing twin in the womb—a symbolic foundation for their themes of duality, memory, and the unseen. Their music fuses vintage psychedelia, space-age pop, tropicalia, kosmische musik, and free jazz, drawing comparisons to artists like Broadcast, Stereolab, and Can, while maintaining a singular voice. With members hailing from different corners of Europe and beyond— including Valentina Magaletti (drums, percussion), Susumu Mukai aka Zongamin (bass), and others—Vanishing Twin’s multicultural lineup reflects the band’s deeply eclectic sonic palette. Each release builds an immersive world: from the dreamy, cinematic textures of their debut Choose Your Own Adventure (2016) to the dense, rhythmic explorations of The Age of Immunology (2019), and the cosmic voyages of Ookii Gekkou (2021). Their work often blends analogue and digital elements, field recordings, spoken word, and layered vocals, creating music that feels as much like a séance as it does a pop record. In 2023, they released their fourth studio album Afternoon X and in 2025, In Piscina, which features the lineup of Cathy Lucas, Elliott Arndt, Phil MFU, Susumu Mukai and Valentina Magaletti.
