Wasuta (ãã¼ãã, short for The World Standard) is a Japanese girl group formed by Avex Trax, consisting of Nanase Hirokawa, Miri Matsuda, Ririka Kodama, Ruka Mishina, and Hazuki Sakamoto. The groupâs debut digital single "Inu Neko. Seishun Massakari" was released in October 2015, followed by their first full album, The World Standard, in May 2016, which peaked at number 17 on the Oricon charts. In June, they dropped "Pawawawawan!!! Powerpuff Girls" to coincide with The Powerpuff Girls series release in Japan, followed by "Gu Choki Pants no Seigi San," the opening theme for the anime series Heybot! Subsequent releases included "Yuumei ni, Nyaritai" in February 2017 and "Just Be Yourself" from anime series Idol Time PriPara in April. October 2017 saw the release of the album Paradox World, reaching number 32 on the Oricon charts, along with the CD single "Saijoukyuu Paradox," which charted at number 19. Digital single "Welcome to Dream" served the ending theme for Idol Time PriPara in March, 2018, followed by the mini-albums Jumping Summer in June, Girls Be Ambitious! in October, both charting at number 23. 2019 album Cat'ch the World, climbed to number 17, seeing the girls finally crack the top 10 with the double-single "Shani Muni Ikiru! / Bathtub Aromatic" in October, rounding out the year with EP The Legend of Wasuta, peaking at number 15. 2020 marked the release of the top 10 single "Sunday Sunshine!" and fourth mini-album What's Standard? land at number 18. Continuing to gather momentum, 2021 saw fan favourites "Haru Hanabi" and "Yomibito Shirazu no Love Song" reach number 6 and 16, respectively, with "MiRival Dance" propelling them into the top 5 in March, 2022, leading to the release of their fifth album, Wareware wa Neko de Aru, in August, which reached number 6 on the Oricon charts and number 8 on the Billboard. On February 22, 2023, "Suman, Inu" also reached the top 5, with the group deviating from their usual pop-sound, releasing rock-inspired "Melo Melo! Love Rock," in August. On February 21, 2024, Wasuta returned with "Eikyuumuchuu de Koushinchu!â¡" which debuted at number 64 on the Billboard Japan chart.
