Fuelled by the fury of grunge and the sing-along hooks of Brit-pop, front-man Billy Lunn recruited his brother Josh and girlfriend Charlotte Cooper into his band The Subways, started making demos in his living room and gigged around North London in 2001. Their breakthrough came when they entered an unsigned bands competition to play at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival and were chosen by organiser Michael Eavis as the winners. Debut album Young for Eternity (2005) produced a barrage of spiky, high energy indie pop songs with the single "Rock & Roll Queen" going on to be used in episodes of TV show The O.C., Guy Richie's film RocknRolla and a commercial for Rimmel cosmetics featuring Kate Moss. Extensive touring led to the break-up of Billy and Charlotte's relationship and Billy was forced to undergo throat surgery before the tense recording of second album All or Nothing (2008). Given a rougher and harder edge by legendary Nirvana producer Butch Vig, the album reached Number 17 in the UK charts and the band went on to support AC/DC at Wembley Stadium. In 2011, The Subways released their third studio album, Money and Celebrity, featuring singles "It's a Party" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". The self-titled The Subways followed in 2015 and the Good Times EP later that year. Following the departure of Morgan for family reasons in 2020, Camille Phillips joined the band the next year for the recording of the fifth full-length Uncertain Joys, released in 2023. In October 2025, The Subways released their first compilation, the 24-tracks When I'm with You, featuring the single "Oh Yeah".
