A British rock trio from Wakefield (Yorkshire), led since 2001 by the Jarman brothers (twins Gary and Ryan Jarman, born in 1980, bassist and guitarist respectively, and younger brother Ross Jarman, born in 1984, on drums), The Cribs signed with independent label Wichita Recordings to record their untitled debut album, charting at #23 in the UK. Affiliated with the post-punk revival scene of the early 2000s, the trio charted three tracks on their follow-up album The New Fellas (No. 20), followed by Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever (No. 1 indie rock chart and No. 13 mainstream), including the hit "Men's Needs" (No. 17). The permanent engagement of guitarist Johnny Marr in 2008 attracted festival audiences before the success of the album Ignore the Ignorant (No. 8), but it was without the former member of The Smiths, who left on April 11, 2011, that his successor In the Belly of the Brazen Bull (2012) was recorded, though it nevertheless reached No. 9. The Payola: 2002-2012 compilation, released in 2013, precedes the trio's subsequent albums: For All My Sisters (2015), produced by Ric Ocasek, 24-7 Rock Star Shit (2017), produced by Steve Albini and the self-released The Cribs (2020), ranked #9, #8 and #18 in the UK.
