The New Cities, a Canadian rock band originating from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, formed on November 15, 2005. The group initially recorded their first EP in early 2006 with producer Steve Nadeau and embarked on tours across Quebec and Ontario. In October 2008, they signed with Sony Music Canada following collaborations with producer Greig Nori. Their debut album Lost in City Lights was released in May 2009, featuring the single "Dead End Countdown", which peaked at Number 16 on the Canadian Hot 100 and won a SOCAN award for "Music pop-rock." The band toured extensively with acts such as Simple Plan, Hedley, and Carly Rae Jepsen. In September 2011, they released their second album Kill the Lights, which included the single "Heatwave". The New Cities were nominated for several awards, including a Juno Award for "New Group of the Year" in 2010 and an ADISQ nomination for "Anglophone Album of the Year."
