The Johnson Mountain Boys

The Johnson Mountain Boys, a bluegrass band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1975. Initially known as "The Johnson Boys," they changed their name to avoid confusion with another folk band. Their first commercial release was the single "Johnson Mountain Hoedown" / "When I Can Forget" in 1978. In 1980, they signed with Rounder Records and released their self-titled debut album The Johnson Mountain Boys. The band toured extensively throughout the 1980s, performing at venues such as Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. They released ten albums during this period, including Walls of Time (1982) and Let the Whole World Talk (1987). The Johnson Mountain Boys disbanded in 1988 but reunited briefly from 1989 to 1996. They were inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2020.
