The Country Gentlemen

The Country Gentlemen, an American bluegrass band, formed on July 4, 1957 in Washington D.C. The original lineup included Charlie Waller, John Duffey, Bill Emerson, and Larry Lahey. They began performing as a replacement for Buzz Busby and the Bayou Boys after several members of that band were injured in a car accident. The Country Gentlemen's early career saw them touring both bluegrass and folk circuits during the 1950s and 1960s. Their first classic lineup, featuring Waller, Duffey, Eddie Adcock on banjo, and Tom Gray on bass, released several influential albums including Country Songs, Old And New (1960). The band underwent multiple lineup changes over the years, with notable members including Doyle Lawson and Ricky Skaggs. They were inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1996. Charlie Waller served as the group's leader until his death in August 2004.
