Takeshi "Tak" Shindo, born on November 11, 1922, in Sacramento, California, was an American musician, composer, and arranger. He moved to Los Angeles in 1927 and began his musical journey as an intern at the Manzanar Relocation Center during World War II. Shindo's career took off with his work on the 1957 motion picture Sayonara, where he blended Japanese and Western musical influences. He served as the musical director for television series such as Gunsmoke and composed theme music for shows like The Ed Sullivan Show. Shindo released several exotica albums between 1958 and 1962, including Mganga! (The Primitive Sounds of Tak Shindo) (1958), Brass and Bamboo (1960), Accent on Bamboo (1960), and Far East Goes Western (1962). He passed away on April 17, 2002.
