Red are an American alternative rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2002 who have had several hit releases on the Billboard charts including the Top Christian Albums Chart. The current line-up includes founder members vocalist and keyboard player Michael Barnes, guitarist Anthony Armstrong and his identical twin brother bassist Randy Armstrong who are joined in concert by drummer Dan Johnson. Former members include guitarist Jasen Rauch and drummers Andrew Hendrix, Joe Rickard and Hayden Lamb. School friends growing up in Linesville, Pennsylvania, they performed at Christian festivals and moved to Nashville to pursue a professional career. Their 2007 debut release, End of Silence, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album and went to number 7 on the Christian Chart, number 17 on the Alternative Albums Chart, and number 194 on the Billboard 200. Released in 2009, their sophomore effort Innocence & Instinct inaugurated an impressive run of number 1 albums on the US Christian Albums chart that continued over the following years with commercially successful LPs such as Until We Have Faces (2011), Release the Panic (2013), Of Beauty and Rage (2015), and Gone (2017). After severing ties with Essential/Sony in 2019, the group made their debut as independent artist with 2020's Declaration, followed by the live album Until We Have Faces: Live and Unplugged in 2022. Rated R, Red's eighth studio outing, arrived in 2023 and was the first one to feature drummer Brian Medeiros.
