Portugal. The Man

Based in Portland, Oregon and formed in 2004, the American quartet Portugal. The Man, led by singer John Gourley. Incorporating elements of funk and synthpop, they cultivate psychedelic pop-rock with a care that doesn't prevent them from being prolific, releasing five albums in their five years of existence: Waiter: "You Vultures! (2006), Church Mouth (2007), Censored Colors (2008), The Satanic Satanist (2009), American Ghetto (2010). In 2011, after signing with the Atlantic label (Warner), In the Mountain, In the Cloud sees John Gourley's band reach Europe. In 2013, the release of Evil Friends (#28 in the U.S.), produced by Danger Mouse, brings signs of international recognition. The band confirms this in 2017 with Woodstock (No. 32), which reserves a hit: "Feel It Still" (No. 4 in the U.S. and No. 3 in the U.K.). After a long six-year break, Portugal. The Man returns with the album Chris Black Changed My Life, featuring the single "Summer of Luv" recorded with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. In 2025, the EP Ulu Selects Vol. #2 features collaborations with Lucius, Francesca Valenzuala and Estereomance, before the release of the album Shish the same year.
