Newton Faulkner is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist born on January 11, 1985 in Reigate, Surrey, England. Known for his percussive guitar technique and warm vocal timbre, he has established himself as one of the leading figures on the British folk-pop scene of the 2000s. After starting out in the band Half a Guy, he embarked on a solo career, making a name for himself in 2007 with his debut album Hand Built by Robots, driven by the hit "Dream Catch Me ", which reached the UK Top 10 and contributed to the record's multi-platinum certification. His second album, Rebuilt by Humans (2009), consolidated his success with tracks like "If This Is It " and "Over and Out" . Known for his innovative guitar playing, often based on rhythmic strikes and open chords, Faulkner remains a benchmark in the contemporary British acoustic scene, appreciated for his authenticity, solo performances and blend of instrumental virtuosity and direct emotion. He followed this up with Write It on Your Skin (2012), which went straight to number one in the UK charts, then Studio Zoo (2013), recorded live and streamed during production, an initiative then unheard of. This was followed by Human Love (2015), where he explored more pop and soul sounds, and Hit the Ground Running (2017), a return to a more acoustic and introspective approach. In 2021, he released Interference (Of Light), a richly textured album blending folk, rock and alternative pop. Four years later, Octopus (2025) is released, featuring abrasive electric tracks.
