Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson (born May 18, 1975, on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, surfer and filmmaker known for acoustic pop, folk-rock and surf-rooted songwriting. Raised in a surfing family, he competed as a young surfer before studying film at the University of California, Santa Barbara and working on surf films including Thicker Than Water and The September Sessions. After early songs circulated through the surf community, Jack Johnson released his debut album Brushfire Fairytales in 2001, followed by On and On in 2003. His third album, In Between Dreams, arrived in 2005 and included some of his signature songs, including “Better Together”, “Banana Pancakes”, “Good People” and “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing”, the latter earning a Grammy nomination. In 2006, he released Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, which included “Upside Down” and reached Number 1 on the Billboard 200. Jack Johnson continued with Sleep Through the Static in 2008, To the Sea in 2010, From Here to Now to You in 2013, All the Light Above It Too in 2017 and Meet the Moonlight in 2022. He followed with the reggae-minded In Between Dub in 2023, then returned in 2025 with “Hold On To The Light” alongside Hermanos Gutiérrez. In 2026, he released SURFILMUSIC (Soundtrack & 4-Tracks) through Brushfire Records, pairing music from his surf documentary with remastered early four-track recordings.
