Mest, formed in 1995 by cousins Tony Lovato and Matt Lovato in the United States, emerged from the local punk scene with a blend of punk pop and rock. The bandâs early work, including the selfâreleased Mo' Money, Mo' 40z, laid the groundwork for their debut on Maverick Records, Wasting Time (Julyâ¯2000), followed by Destination Unknown (Novemberâ¯2001). A breakthrough came with the single "Jaded" from the selfâtitled album Mest (Juneâ¯2003), which charted in Australia at number 88 and featured a collaboration with Benji Madden of Goodâ¯Charlotte. Subsequent releases, Photographs (Octoberâ¯2005) and the 2013 independent album Not What You Expected, expanded Mestâs catalog. The group disbanded in earlyâ¯2006 after a U.S. tour but reformed in 2008 for a brief reunion, then rebuilt with new members Mike Longworth and Richie Gonzales. In 2018, the original lineup announced a return, releasing Masquerade (Januaryâ¯2020) and the single "Masquerade" (Julyâ¯2019). The latest studio effort, Youth (Juneâ¯2024), was accompanied by the single "When We Were Young" featuring Jaret Reddick of Bowling For Soup. Throughout its career, Mest has toured with acts such as Goldfinger, Social Distortion, and Warped Tour, maintaining a steady presence in the punkârock landscape without attaining mainstream chart dominance.
