London Philharmonic Choir

London Philharmonic Choir is one of the leading independent British choirs in the United Kingdom, based in London. Founded in 1946, emerged as an independent mixed‑voice choir with more than 200 members. Its early breakthrough came with the 1947 recording of Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the 1948 BBC radio broadcasts of Vaughan Williams’s Sancta Civitas and Verdi’s Stabat Mater. Over the following decades the choir released notable recordings such as Sounds of Glory (1976), which later became the best‑selling Praise - 18 Choral Masterpieces, and the 1987 Grammy‑winning Mahler Eighth Symphony with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The choir’s touring schedule expanded, including a 1979 European tour and performances at the Royal Albert Hall for 50th and 60th anniversaries in 1997 and 2007. Under successive chorus masters, the London Philharmonic Choir maintained its charitable status and continued collaborations with conductors like Sir Georg Solti, Klaus Tennstedt, and Sir Mark Elder.
