The Monteverdi Choir

The Monteverdi Choir, founded in 1964 by Sir John Eliot Gardiner in Cambridge, United Kingdom, is a professional choral ensemble specializing in early music and a repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. The choir's early recordings include J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232 (1985), Mozart's Requiem, KV 626 (1986), and Bach's St Matthew Passion, BWV 244 (1989). In 2000, the choir undertook the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage, performing and recording J.S. Bach’s church cantatas in more than 60 historic churches across Europe and the United States, with releases on the Soli Deo Gloria label. Their recording history also includes Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Op. 123 (1990) and Berlioz's Messe solennelle (1994). The choir performed at the coronation of King Charles III in 2023 and received the Best Choir award at the Oper! Awards in Amsterdam on January 29, 2024. Following Gardiner's resignation in July 2024, the choir recorded Baroque Christmas (2025) with Christophe Rousset.
