Lael Neale was born on a farm in rural Virginia. She released her debut album I’ll Be Your Man in 2015 on Liberal Arts. After moving to Los Angeles, she signed with Sub Pop Records and released her second album Acquainted with Night in 2021. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, she returned to her family farm, where she wrote and recorded in solitude. This period led to her third album Star Eater’s Delight, released in April 2023. Her song “Hotline” gained praise in 2022. One of the best kept secrets of the indie scene, the reclusive singer-songwriter has evolved her style from minimal synthwave to intimate folk and bedroom dream pop. May 2025 saw the release of her fourth full-length, the praised Altogether Stranger, with songs like "Tell Me How to Be Here", and "Down on the Freeway."
