Jawbreaker is an American punk rock, pop-punk, emo, and hardcore punk band formed in 1986 by Blake Schwarzenbach, Adam Pfahler, and Chris Bauermeister while they were students at New York University. They initially practiced together in Los Angeles before releasing their debut song "Shield Your Eyes" on the compilation album The World's in Shreds Volume Two (1988). In 1990, they released their first full-length album Unfun (1990) through Shredder Records. They relocated to San Francisco and released the album Bivouac (1992). After touring with Nirvana in 1993, they released the album 24 Hour Revenge Therapy (1994). They signed a $1 million contract with DGC Records and released the album Dear You (1995). Internal tensions led to their dissolution in 1996. They reunited in 2017. Following their breakup, members were active in other projects including Jets to Brazil and Whysall Lane.
