God Street Wine, a jam band also known as GSW from New York City, came together in 1988. Their earliest gigs were at venues like Nightingale's. In 1988, they recorded songs such as "Electrocute" and "Freight Train." They released their debut album Bag in 1992, financed independently. God Street Wine signed with Geffen Records in 1994 and recorded their major label debut at Beale Street Studios in Memphis. The band toured extensively throughout the mid-1990s. They disbanded in 1999 but reunited in 2009.
