El Poder del Norte

Mexican norteño group El Poder del Norte formed in Monterrey, Nuevo León, in 1993. The group started after Arturo Buenrostro and Jesús Buenrostro Hernández started the group Los Pioneros, recording music for the MCM label in the early 1990s. After a few years, they both left the label to start a new musical project. They soon signed with the Discos Sabinas label under their new name El Poder del Norte, and a lineup made up of Arturo Buenrostro, Arturo Buenrostro Jr., David Bocanegra, Abimael de la Garza, Ricardo González, and Alejandro Fuentes. They released their first album Mi Decisión in 1993, which helped establish them as an important name within the regional Mexican music genre. This was followed by their sophomore album Cómo Llama, which further increased their popularity. In 1997, they released their album Aquí Están, which was their commercial breakthrough to the mainstream, connecting them to audiences beyond the norteño scene. Through the course of the following years, El Poder del Norte kept releasing widely successful and acclaimed albums such as 15 Poderosos Corridos (1998) and Con Ganas de Ti (1998). Their 2000 release A Ellas was a concept album made up of songs dedicated to women, including one of the group’s biggest hits “Ni Que Valieras Tanto.” Through their prolific release schedule and their relentless touring, the group kept up their popularity through the course of the 2000s and 2010s, finally disbanding in 2019.
