Echt is a German pop band that was founded in Flensburg in 1994. The members are singer Kim Frank (born May 24, 1982 in Flensburg), guitarist Kai Fischer, bassist Andreas "Puffi" Puffpaff, drummer Florian "Flo" Sump and keyboarder Gunnar Astrup. The band evolved from a school band at the Kurt Tucholsky School and was initially known as Seven Up. In 1998, the band changed its name to Echt. The debut album Echt is released on October 9, 1998 and reaches number 5 in the German album charts. The singles "Alles wird sich ändern", "Wir haben's getan" and "Wo bist du jetzt?" achieve respectable success. The breakthrough came in 1999 with the second album Freischwimmer, which reached number 1 in the German charts and was awarded gold. The singles "Du trägst keine Liebe in dir" and "Weinst du" both reach number 7 in the German singles charts. The cover version "Junimond" by Rio Reiser is released in 2000 and reaches number 12 in the German charts. The third album Recorder is released in 2001 and reaches number 21 in the German album charts. The singles "Wie geht es dir so?" and "Stehengeblieben" fall short of expectations. The band breaks up in 2002. Echt receives several awards, including the Bambi (2000), the Goldene Europa (2000), the Echo for the music video of the year (2000) and the 1 Live Krone for the best single "Junimond" (2000).
