Charley Crockett was born Matthew Charles Crockett on Marchâ¯24â¯1984 in Sanâ¯Benito, Texas, and grew up in a trailer park in Losâ¯Fresnos before moving to Dallas. He taught himself guitar and songwriting after leaving high school at 17, busking in Newâ¯York and later forming the street band Trainâ¯Robbers, which attracted a Sony Music representative. In 2015 he selfâreleased A Stolen Jewel, followed by In the Night (2016) and Lilâ¯G.L.'s Honkyâ¯Tonk Jubilee (2017). Subsequent releases-Lonesome as a Shadow (2018), The Valley (2019), Welcome to Hard Times (2020), Music City USA (2021), The Man from Waco (2022), and $10 Cowboy (2024)-entered the Billboardâ¯200. Lonesome Drifter and Dollar a Day (both 2025) continued the chart presence. Charley Crockett received the 2021 Emerging Artist of the Year award at the Americana Music Honors and Awards, performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NPR Tiny Desk, and signed with Island Records in 2025. Age of the Ram was released in April of 2026.
