Çekiç Ali

Çekiç Ali, born Ali Ersan in 1932 in Meşeköy, Kırşehir, was a prominent Turkish bağlama player, singer, and folk musician from the Anatolian region. He is considered one of the most significant interpreters of Kırşehir's folk songs and bozlak. His exceptional skill with the saz earned him the nickname "Çekiç," meaning "Hammer." A disciple of the legendary Muharrem Ertaş, who also mentored other notable musicians like Hacı Taşan and Neşet Ertaş, Çekiç Ali developed his musical talents independently. Throughout his career, he released numerous 45 RPM records and cassette albums, including hits like "Doğar Yaz Ayları" (1992) and "Zeyneb'e Ağıt" (1999). After undergoing heart surgery at Ankara Yüksek İhtisas Hospital, he tragically passed away on September 13, 1973, at the age of 40 or 41 from a stroke, just two years after his surgery.
