Cap'n Jazz

Cap'n Jazz, an American emo band from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, was formed in 1989 by brothers Tim Kinsella and Mike Kinsella. Initially known as Toe Jam with Victor Villarreal and Sam Zurick, they changed their name to Cap'n Jazz and began recording singles for independent labels in the early 1990s. In 1995, they released their only full-length album, Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over, often referred to as Shmap'n Shmazz. The band disbanded shortly after. In 1998, Jade Tree Records released the retrospective Analphabetapolothology, compiling all but one of the band's completed recorded works. Cap'n Jazz reunited in 2010 for a series of shows and has since performed at various festivals.
