Formed in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2017, Wednesday revolves around singer/guitarist Karly Hartzman and her partner and collaborator MJ Lenderman (guitar). Rounded out by Xandy Chelmis (pedal steel guitar), Ethan Baechtold (bass) and Alan Miller (drums), the alternative rock band practices shoegaze and noise rock genres like country and, in its early days, bedroom pop. After a self-released debut album in 2018, Yep Definitely, came I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone (2020), Twin Plagues (2021) and Moving the Leaves Instead of Piling 'Em Up (2022), a collection of country covers with a noisy rock twist. The critically acclaimed follow-up, Rat Saw God(2023), is followed by the surprise hit "Elderberry Wine" (2025), ranked No. 38 on the Top 40 Radio Adult Alternative Songs chart.
