WayV

Formed in 2018, WayV is a seven member C-pop (Chinese Pop) boyband, the fourth sub-unit of South Korean K-pop outfit NCT and part of SM Entertainment. The concept of NCT is based on the idea of having an unlimited number of members broken down into sub-units located in various cities around the world. WayV, based in China, features six members: Kun, Ten, Winwin, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang. Each member of the group was originally part of SM Entertainment’s Rookies project, which helped groom possible future boyband members. Although the group was formed in 2018, they weren’t officially unveiled as WayV until January 2019 with the release of their digital debut EP The Vision. The EP included a Chinese-language version of NCT 127’s “Regular”. In May 2018, WayV released their first official EP, Take Off, which reached Number 7 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. The group then starred in their own reality TV show called Dream Plan. WayV’s second physical EP, Take Over the Moon, was released in October 2019. The group were winners of the Best New Artist Award at the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards. They released their debut full-length album, Awaken the World, in 2020. The album featured the single “Turn Back Time”. WayV participated in the NCT 2020 project, which featured performances by different sub-units on two different releases: NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 and NCT Resonance Pt. 2. The third WayV EP, Kick Back, was issued in 2021 and proved to be the last release featuring original member Lucas, who went on hiatus and never returned to the group. They released their fourth EP, Phantom, at the end of 2022 and followed that a year later with their second full length album, the platinum-selling On My Youth (2023). Due to conflicting schedules, original member Winwin was not featured on the group’s fifth EP, Give Me That, released in June 2024. Wayv made their Japanese debut with the release of their first Japanese EP, The Highest, on September 25, 2024
