VOLA are a Danish progressive metal band formed in 2006, known for their innovative blend of atmospheric soundscapes, complex rhythms, and heavy yet melodic compositions. The band consists of Asger Mygind (vocals and guitar), Martin Werner (keyboard and synthesizers), Nicolai Mogensen (bass), and Sebastian Wolff (drums). Drawing influences from a wide spectrum of genres including progressive rock, metalcore, electronic, and post-rock, VOLA has carved out a unique sound that seamlessly fuses intricate musicianship with accessible melodies. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, Inmazes (2015), which garnered critical acclaim for its fusion of soaring melodies and heavy, technical riffs. With subsequent releases like Applause of a Distant Crowd (2018) and Witness (2021)—which reached number seven on the UK's Rock & Metal Albums chart—VOLA further refined their sound, exploring themes of introspection, human experience, and the intersection of technology and emotion. The band charted in several European countries with their fourth album Friend of a Phantom, released in November 2024 through Mascot Records.
