Victory is a German hard rock and heavy metal band that was founded in Hanover in 1984. The band evolved from the former formation Fargo, and the original members were Peter Knorn (bass), Tommy Newton (guitar), John Lockton (guitar) and Bernie Van Der Graaf (drums). Shortly after its formation, singer Charlie Huhn joined the group, having previously worked with Gary Moore and Ted Nugent, among others. The band quickly made a name for itself in the international rock and metal scene. Their debut album Victory was released in 1985 and gained them a growing fan base through intensive touring and appearances in the USA and Europe. Their breakthrough came with their fourth album Culture Killed the Native (1989), which reached number 19 in the German charts and number 182 in the US charts. Other successful albums include Temples of Gold (1990) and Don't Get Mad... Get Even (1986). The band disbanded in 1994 after the album Liveline, but returned in 2003 and released Fuel to the Fire, an album of re-recordings of old songs, in 2006. Victory remained active in the following years, with the line-up changing several times. In 2021, they released the album Gods of Tomorrow, which confirmed their return to the metal scene. Victory played major festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head, and their energetic live performances remain a trademark of the band. In 2024, Victory released another album, Circle of Life. The album climbed to number 39 in Germany and reached number 24 in Switzerland.
