Veselye Rebjata

Veselye Rebjata, a Soviet vocal-instrumental ensemble founded in 1968 in Moscow by pianist and composer Pavel Slobodkin, emerged as a prominent pop-rock group in the Soviet music scene. The ensemble’s reputation grew with early recordings beginning in 1970 and releases such as the EP “Как Прекрасен Этот Мир” in 1973, followed by the commercially successful album Любовь — огромная страна in 1974. Throughout the 1970s, Veselye Rebjata released a series of albums, including Дружить нам надо (1978) and Музыкальный Глобус (1979), and performed extensively across Eastern Europe, notably in Prague in 1971 and as part of the cultural program of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The group continued to produce records into the 2000s, with releases such as Любовь-дитя планеты (2007), Когда молчим вдвоём (2007), and later Напиши мне письмо (2012). In 2005, the band was reconstituted with new members, maintaining its presence in the Russian pop-rock landscape. The group disbanded following the death of founder Pavel Slobodkin in August 2017, marking the end of an era that had seen the band sell over 179 million records and secure a lasting place in Soviet and Russian popular music history.
