Elmer Ellsworth McMeen III, known as El McMeen, was born on June 3, 1947, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. He is an acoustic steel-string fingerstyle guitarist specializing in arrangements of melodic pieces across various genres, including Irish music and pop music. McMeen began his musical journey playing the clarinet and piano before transitioning to guitar as a senior at Mt. Hermon School. His debut album, Of Soul and Spirit, was released in 1991, followed by Irish Guitar Encores in 1992. After practicing law for many years, he retired in 2000 to pursue music full-time. He is also the author of several books, such as Celtic Treasures for String Trio (2005) and The Art of Dropped D Guitar.
