Tony Carey

Anthony Lawrence Carey, born 16 October 1953 in Watsonville, California, is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, pianist, and bassist whose career spans more than four decades. After playing church piano and later joining the band Blessings, Tony Carey was recruited by Ritchie Blackmore to join Rainbow, contributing keyboards to the 1976 album Rising and touring worldwide; he recorded live material for On Stage (1977) and Live in Germany (1990). In 1978 he relocated to Germany, launching a solo career that began with the single "Jamie" (1981) and the album I Won’t Be Home Tonight (1982), which reached number 167 on the Billboard 200. He formed the side progressive project Planet P Project. Tony Carey pursued under his own name with MCA and released many albums . In 1984, Some Tough City featured the Top 40 single "A Fine, Fine Day". Subsequent releases included Blue Highway (1985), Storyville (1990), The Long Road (1992), and Cold War Kids (1994) on East West. He expanded into soundtrack work with Bedtime Story (1987) and Wilder Westen Inclusive (1988), including the hit "Room with a View." He produced for artists such as Peter Maffay and Joe Cocker. In the 2000s he revived the Planet P Project with Go Out Dancing (2003–2009) and released Steeltown (2013). After a cancer battle in 2009, he returned to recording with Lucky Us (2019) and continued performing with Mandoki Soulmates, maintaining a steady presence in European rock circles.
