Holker Schmidt, born on August 21, 1952 in Bad Camberg, Hessen, Germany, was a German singer-songwriter and frontman of the rock band Tiger B. Smith. He began his musical journey in 1965 with his first group Groove, followed by Whiteface in 1968, and Second Life in 1969. Schmidt secured a record deal with Bellaphon Records after impressing producers with his self-written songs. In 1972, he formed Tiger B. Smith in Frankfurt am Main, consisting of himself (vocals, guitar), Claus Meinhardt (bass), and Karl-Heinz Traut (drums). Their debut album Tiger Rock was released the same year, followed by Weâre the Tiger Bunch in 1974. Their sound combined progressive fuzz and blues rock with extended instrumental passages, placing them within the Krautrock genre. The band gained regional fame, touring extensively through Germany and Europe, and performing with notable acts like Deep Purple and Scorpions. The band reunited in 2001 and released Mensch Sein, their first release in German. Schmidt passed away on December 20, 2016, at the age of 64 due to cancer.
