The Kentucky Colonels

The Kentucky Colonels, a bluegrass band from Burbank, California, formed in 1954 as Three Little Country Boys by brothers Roland White (mandolin), Clarence White (acoustic guitar), and Eric Jr. White (banjo and double bass). The group initially gained attention through local radio contests and television appearances on Town Hall Party. In 1962, they changed their name to the Kentucky Colonels and released their debut album, The New Sound of Bluegrass America (1963), which showcased Clarence White's influential flatpicking guitar style. The band's second album, Appalachian Swing!, was released in 1964 on World Pacific Records and was noted for its instrumental prowess. Despite not achieving significant commercial success, the Kentucky Colonels were highly regarded within the bluegrass community. They disbanded in late 1965 but reunited briefly in 1966 and again in 1973 as the White Brothers. Clarence White's innovative guitar playing left a lasting impact on bluegrass music.
