The Dead 60s

The Dead 60s were an English ska‑punk band formed in Liverpool, Merseyside, in 2003, with Matt McManamon on vocals and guitar, Ben Gordon on guitar and organ, Charlie Turner on bass and vocals, and Bryan Johnson on drums; the members met at Merchant Taylor's School for Boys in Crosby and originally performed as Rest Home before becoming Pinhole, releasing the EP 122 Duke Street in 2001 and the single "So Over You" / "Morning Rain" in 2002, which reached Number 8 in the John Peel Festive Fifty. After a brief split in 2003, the group re‑emerged as The Dead 60s, signed to Deltasonic Records, and released their debut album The Dead 60s in the United States on 31 May 2005 and in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2005; the single "Riot Radio" became the third most added track on Alternative Radio that year, behind White Stripes and Coldplay. The band toured extensively across the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, and the United States, performing at festivals such as Lollapalooza and the KROQ Weenie Roast, and appeared on the Vans Warped Tour. They relocated to New York in 2007 to record Time to Take Sides, released on 13 August 2007, and played to 30 000 at Ward Park, Bangor. The band announced their split on 8 February 2008; members later pursued individual projects, with Matt McManamon working on his solo album Scally Folk released in May 2021.
