The Bathers

The Bathers, a Scottish chamber pop band formed in 1985, was led by singer-songwriter Chris Thomson. The band released their debut album Unusual Places to Die in 1987 on Go! Discs Records and followed up with Sweet Deceit in 1990 on Island Records. After a hiatus, they returned with three albums on Marina Records: Lagoon Blues (1993), Sunpowder (1995), and Kelvingrove Baby (1997). The band's sixth album, Pandemonia, was released in 1999. After releasing a compilation of re-recorded songs titled Desire Regained in 2001, The Bathers disbanded but continued to receive critical acclaim. They reformed in January 2016 for performances at the Celtic Connections festival and subsequently released new material, including the album Summer Lightning (2022) and Sirenesque (2023). In 2025, they released a new version of Pandemonia.
