Thalía

Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda, better known as Thalía, was born on August 26, 1971, in Mexico City. Later nicknamed the “Queen of Latin Pop,” she began performing as a child after a difficult early life marked by the death of her father and a period in which she lost her voice. At nine, she joined the children’s group Pac Man, later renamed Din-Din, which released several albums in the early 1980s. She moved into musical theater with Vaselina, a children’s adaptation of Grease, before joining Timbiriche in 1986 and recording several albums with the group. In 1987, she made her television debut in Pobre Señorita Limantour, opening the acting career that later made her one of the best-known telenovela stars in Latin America. Thalía launched her solo career with Thalía in 1990, led by singles such as “Amarillo Azul,” “Pienso en Ti,” “Un Pacto entre los Dos” and “Saliva,” then followed with Mundo de Cristal in 1991 and Love in 1992, which included “Sangre,” “Love” and “La Vie en Rose.” After signing with EMI, she released En Éxtasis in 1995, featuring the hit “Piel Morena,” and reached a broader international audience with Amor a la Mexicana in 1997, produced by Emilio Estefan and supported by “Mujer Latina,” “Por Amor” and “Amor a la Mexicana.” In 2000, Arrasando topped Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart and strengthened her crossover profile, while the 2002 Spanish-language album Thalía reached number 126 on the Billboard 200 and its 2003 English-language counterpart reached number 11. She continued expanding her catalog with albums including El Sexto Sentido, Lunada, Habítame Siempre, Viva Kids Vol. 1 and Amore Mío, then returned in the 2020s with Viva Kids Vol. 2 in 2020, Desamorfosis in 2021 and Thalía’s Mixtape in 2023. In 2024, she explored Regional Mexican music on A Mucha Honra, featuring “Choro” with Estilo Sin Límite, “Troca” with Ángela Aguilar and “Te Va a Doler” with Grupo Firme, which reached number 53 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart. She followed with Navidad Melancólica in 2024 and a 30th-anniversary remaster of En Éxtasis in 2025. In 2026, Thalía received the Icon Award at Billboard Women in Music and released Todo Suena Mejor En Cumbia, a cumbia-focused album featuring “Boomerang,” “Todo, Todo, Todo” with Yuri, “Aquí Es Mi Lugar” with Grupo Maximo Grado and “Yo Me Lo Busqué” with Los Ángeles Azules.
