Tarja

Commonly known as "Tarja" or "Tarja Turunen," Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli is a heavy metal singer who performed with the Finnish band Nightwish before topping the charts with her solo debut, Henkäys ikuisuudesta, in 2006. She was born on August 17, 1977, in Kitee, Finland, and began studying classical vocal techniques as a child. After co-founding Nightwish in 1996, she logged a a decade as the band's lead singer, appearing on five platinum-certified albums (as well as three Number 1 albums on the Finnish charts) along the way. She left the band in October 2005 and released the Christmas-themed solo album Henkäys ikuisuudesta one year later. My Winter Storm followed in 2007 and reached Number 1 in Finland. 2010's What Lies Beneath and 2013's Colors in the Dark were both Top 10 successes, as well. Tarja focused on classical music for Ave Maria – En Plein Air, which was released in 2015, then returned to her signature heavy metal style for records like 2016's The Shadow Self and 2019's In the Raw. She changed styles once again with 2023's Outlanders, a collaborative album recorded alongside the electronic producer Torsten Stenzel. That same year, she also released the live album Rocking Heels: Live at Metal Church, which charted at number 86 in Germany.
