Tarriona âTankâ Ball, born 2011 in Newâ¯Orleans, Louisiana, is the lead vocalist of New⯠Orleansâbased band Tank and the Bangas. The group formed in 2011 after members met at the Liberation Lounge; early performances were selfâreleased before signing with Verveâ¯Forecast. In 2017 the band won NPRâs Tinyâ¯Desk Contest with the single "Quick", propelling their debut album Think Tank (2013) into national attention. Subsequent releases-Green Balloon (2019), Red Balloon (2022), and The Heart, the Mind, the Soul (2024)-earned nominations at the 2020, 2023, and 2024 Grammys, respectively; the latter won Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2025. The 2026 album The Last Balloon and the single "Move" continued their presence, while collaborations such as "Todoâ¯Colores" with Robert Glasper, Ibrahimâ¯Maalouf and Cimafunk highlighted their eclectic style.
