Leon Bridges

Leon Bridges was born Todd Michael Bridges on July 13, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. After performing at local open-mic nights, he began working with White Denim members Austin Jenkins and Josh Block, whose production helped shape the 1960s-inspired soul of his debut album, Coming Home. Released by Columbia Records in 2015, the album reached number 6 on the Billboard 200 and number 8 in the United Kingdom, produced the Adult Alternative Airplay chart-topper “Smooth Sailin’,” and received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. Leon Bridges broadened his sound with funk and contemporary R&B on Good Thing in 2018. The album reached number 3 in the United States and featured “Bad Bad News” and “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand,” the latter earning him the Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance in 2019. He also supported Harry Styles during the South American leg of Styles’ 2018 tour. Leon Bridges collaborated with the psychedelic-funk trio Khruangbin on the EP Texas Sun in 2020, then recorded the protest song “Sweeter” with Terrace Martin following the murder of George Floyd. “Sweeter” subsequently appeared on Gold-Diggers Sound in 2021, an album that further developed his atmospheric contemporary R&B and received another Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. His partnership with Khruangbin continued with Texas Moon in 2022, featuring “B-Side.” Leon Bridges joined Miranda Lambert on “If You Were Mine” in 2023 and contributed the solo track “Chrome Cowgirl” to Twisters: The Album in 2024. Later that year, he released Leon, a folk-, country-, and soul-influenced reflection on his upbringing in Fort Worth, led by “Peaceful Place” and “That’s What I Love.” The former became his third chart-topping single on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart. In 2025, Leon Bridges toured with Charley Crockett on The Crooner & the Cowboy Tour and released the seasonal songs “This Christmas I’m Coming Home” with Norah Jones and “A Merry Black Christmas.” He began unveiling his fifth album, Happiness Anytime, through the four-song EPs Happiness Anytime: Part 1 and Happiness Anytime: Part 2 in 2026. Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of Jungle, the album was preceded by “Light the Way,” “Tears of Joy,” “Illusion,” and “Your Love Is Electric” and was released on September 25, 2026.
